Benefits of Pre-Natal Yoga

Prenatal yoga offers many benefits: physical, mental, and emotional! It is a very safe way to stay active during pregnancy! Here are some of the key advantages:

  • Improves posture: as the body goes through many changes during pregnancy, posture can suffer often resulting in discomfort, pain, and tension. Yoga can promote better alignment, alleviating some of the strain on the body!

  • Improves flexibility: This is important to allow your body to change with the growing baby. It is also important to allow the pelvis to expand as the baby moves through the birthing canal during birth!

  • Improving strength: As your posture changes and your body becomes more flexible, prenatal yoga can improve strength to help with stability, physical demands of labor, and to help you once you have a new baby to take care of.

  • Improves breathing: Learning proper breathing techniques can be very beneficial for labor! Controlled and deep breathing can promote relaxation for your mind and muscles. Your breath will be a huge help during labor!

  • Better sleep: Reducing discomfort and relaxation will help you have better sleep quality!

  • Mindfulness: The mental focus and mindfulness in yoga will be good practice for childbirth in connecting to your body and preparing for the physical demands. Mindfulness during yoga will encourage you to connect with your growing baby.

  • Reduces Stress and Anxiety: The breathing exercises and mindfulness techniques in prenatal yoga help calm the mind, reducing stress and anxiety. It’s a great way to promote relaxation and emotional well-being.

  • Improves Circulation and Reduces Swelling: Yoga poses encourage better blood flow and circulation, which can reduce swelling in the feet, ankles, and hands.

  • Increases Body Awareness: Prenatal yoga helps mothers-to-be become more attuned to their bodies, fostering better awareness of how their bodies are changing and how to adapt to those changes.

  • Improves core stability: this will help the postpartum recovery, pelvic floor function, balance, and overall everyday movements that have become more difficult.

  • Connecting with your community: Going to prenatal yoga will help you connect and meet others in similar stages of life. Everyone needs a community around them!
