What is Visceral Mobilization?
Did you know that your organs are surrounded by tissue called fascia? Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds every part of your body - including muscles, bones, organs, ligaments, tendons…the list goes on!
When fascia becomes restrictive to an organ (s) ability to move and function (for example - your uterus, bladder, kidney, stomach), the organ can mimic pain symptoms. These symptoms can include back pain, hip pain, and neck pain, but the good news is, we have techniques to help! Common areas that your organs can refer pain to are:
Liver - right shoulder, trapezius, neck
Bladder - tailbone, upper hamstrings
Kidney - low back, hips, outside of thighs
Stomach - middle of the back
If you have tried traditional therapy, but have not been able to fully get rid of aches and pain, visceral treatment might be a good option to investigate!
Our therapists at Breathe in Motion are trained in this hands-on approach. Don’t be alarmed if the technique feels like a gentle amount of pressure, because that is exactly how this style of therapy should be performed to promote release of tight tissues around your organs. Your therapist will likely also use a lot of breathing techniques and specific home exercises to maintain the movement achieved during the session!
If you are interested in learning more about this technique, give us a call to schedule an evaluation!
